Live - Online Private Lesson

Jane teaches all levels and most styles of art - and her students love to learn from her! In addition to offering in-person sessions (more info), this is your opportunity to schedule a live, online private lesson (via Zoom).

What subjects are taught? Jane teaches Watercolor and conducts Critiques on Student Work.

What about supplies? After you register, Jane will send you a supply list. Frequently students don’t need to buy any new materials. You will discuss your preferences with Jane.

What do you want to learn? You will complete a brief questionnaire to let Jane know your experience and what you want to focus on.

What levels are taught? Beginner, intermediate, advanced.

Once scheduled, the student 'sits across' (via Zoom) from Jane and watches Jane as she paints (in real time), demonstrating techniques and answering questions. In a typical session, Jane will:

  • Demonstrate the technique or the actual scene that the student and Jane have decided on.
  • Advise the student as they paint along with Jane (if that is the process the student has selected).
  • Make recommendations on materials, paint, brushes, paper, and care of supplies.
  • Pace the lesson so it is comfortable for the student.
  • Share recommended books or videos and frequently discusses art history.
  • Discuss various art genre such as Impressionism, Abstract Expressionist, Baroque, Fauvism, Renaissance, Regionalism, Modernism, photography trends, drawings, etc.
  • Discusses comparative work of master artists, and sometimes presents a brief (~5-minute) PowerPoint with examples of techniques.
  • Gives the student assignments to work on before the next lesson.

More About
Jane M. Mason

As a small child, I started taking art classes at Joslyn Museum in Omaha. Every Saturday morning I was at the museum for a class. As a five-year-old, I won my first art contest and distinctly remember the drawing I had created being used on the cover of the spring catalog for Joslyn Museum. My childlike enthusiasm for art and happiness creating art is in my DNA now. It’s part of every piece of art I create.
