Notes From The Artist...

Considering still life paintings over the years, I realized that they frequently featured contemporary objects: a favorite goblet, or piece of lace. Charles Reid, a contemporary watercolorist (1937-2019), included such everyday items as a box of Corn Flakes in a painting. I realized our ubiquitous cell phones offer an item of contemporary life to a realistic scene, and it associates a date to the painting that matches the specific style of the smart phone. This happens to be an iPhone 7. This is the first in a series of still life with cell phones.

More About
Jane M. Mason

As a small child, I started taking art classes at Joslyn Museum in Omaha. Every Saturday morning I was at the museum for a class. As a five-year-old, I won my first art contest and distinctly remember the drawing I had created being used on the cover of the spring catalog for Joslyn Museum. My childlike enthusiasm for art and happiness creating art is in my DNA now. It’s part of every piece of art I create.
