Notes From The Artist...

Flowers are always a tempting subject matter for me. For this painting I was sitting in my sister's garden painting her breathtakingly beautiful peonies bushes. I used some candle wax as a resist on this painting to hold back the watercolor paint. This makes the texture of the petals and leaves more interesting. I used analogous colors of red and some peach to add more depth to the blooms.

Oh, if only you could smell that sweet aroma from the peonies.

Ah, summer blooms...You entice me.

More About
Jane M. Mason

As a small child, I started taking art classes at Joslyn Museum in Omaha. Every Saturday morning I was at the museum for a class. As a five-year-old, I won my first art contest and distinctly remember the drawing I had created being used on the cover of the spring catalog for Joslyn Museum. My childlike enthusiasm for art and happiness creating art is in my DNA now. It’s part of every piece of art I create.
