Notes From The Artist...

I am a warrior for the truth. A hero of mine is Joan of Arc. (She is a real person, who lived from approximately 1413-1431. She was martyred for wearing men's clothing and was sainted in 1920.)

This artwork is a narrative hooked tapestry featuring Joan of Arc as a symbol of truth, courage, humility, and purity.

The border features pussycats wearing pink hats and the hashtag, #METOO. The Latin says, "I am not afraid… I was born to do this." The dog at her side stands for faithfulness. The sheep for Joan's role as a shepherdess. The white horse stands for her trust in her path: she commanded an army from horseback even though she did not know how to ride a horse until she was inspired by her faith. As she said, she was born to do God's calling for her."

More About
Jane M. Mason

As a small child, I started taking art classes at Joslyn Museum in Omaha. Every Saturday morning I was at the museum for a class. As a five-year-old, I won my first art contest and distinctly remember the drawing I had created being used on the cover of the spring catalog for Joslyn Museum. My childlike enthusiasm for art and happiness creating art is in my DNA now. It’s part of every piece of art I create.
