Notes From The Artist:

A loose watercolor painting created "en plein air" while I was sitting in a field waist-high in weeds and rushes. Many of the trees in this wooded area had fallen during the winter. In early spring, when I was at one of the Cook County Forest Preserves areas in Niles, IL, they were sprawled on the ground. The sky was intensely blue as it popped through the little nooks and crannies in the abstract structure of the fallen trees.

You will notice that this painting is not a rectangle -- it has wonky edges. That's because I freehand the border on my paintings. This one, which was painted basically wile I held it on my lap, seems to be particularly wild. These wonky edges often one of those distinctive features of my original paintings--that's just how I do it!

More About
Jane M. Mason

As a small child, I started taking art classes at Joslyn Museum in Omaha. Every Saturday morning I was at the museum for a class. As a five-year-old, I won my first art contest and distinctly remember the drawing I had created being used on the cover of the spring catalog for Joslyn Museum. My childlike enthusiasm for art and happiness creating art is in my DNA now. It’s part of every piece of art I create.
